Congratulations to Mariko Fujimoto for being selected to attend the March 15th ‐ 18th JACL Collegiate Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. Great job Mariko!!

Congratulations Katy Drennan for being named All League and Top Senior Player in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

Congratulations to chapter members Eric Amemiya, Brendan Boon, and Kelsey Kawaguchi who graduated from high school in June. Eric graduated from Leland High and will be attending UC Davis this fall. Brendan who is a board member graduated from Cupertino High and will be attending UC Santa Cruz. Kelsey graduated from Leland High and will be attending UC Davis. Congratulations to all as they move onto their college lives.

Thank You to Gail Sueki for serving on the National JACL Board as VP of General Operations for the last biennium. Gail did a great job and she will be missed on the National Board. Congrats Gail and National JACL’s loss is a big gain for the chapter.

Congratulations to chapter member Katy Drennan for being named Co‐MVP of the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. Katy is a Junior at Willow Glen High School. Katy was also named Honorable Mention for the All Mercury News Selection. Great job Katy!!!

Congratulations to chapter board member Linda Fujimoto for being honored with the Betsuin Volunteer Recognition Program for 2011. Linda was nominated for her volunteer work with the Venturing Crew 611. Congrats Linda!!!

Congratulations to DALTON VICTOR for being elected as Vice-chair to the San Jose's Human Rights Commission.

Board member DIANE MORIMUNE and her family were highlighted as a 4 generation family during this year's 2011 San Jose Day of Rememberance. KENNY FUJIMOTO participated in reading camp names during the ceremony.

Congratulations to DALTON VICTOR for his appointment to the San Jose's Human Rights Commission representing District 4.

LISA KOBAYASHI was honored with the District 4 Outstanding Citizen Award at a Community Recognition Event on January 30 for her work organizing National Night Out and other neighborhood events. Councilmember Kansen Chu said, “We are truly fortunate to have so many outstanding individuals in our community who dedicate their time to make District 4 a better place to live. I know there are so many remarkable volunteers who have positively contributed to the success of our community and want to make sure they are recognized for all their hard work and dedication.”

Board member GREG HORI helped lead his team to the Division II Central Coast Section Championship. Greg’s Willow Glen Football team won the championship with a win over Sequoia High School of San Mateo 47‐14. Greg was honored as 1st Team All‐League selection for the BVAL– Santa Teresa Division.

Congratulations to Chapter Member KATIE DOI for her early acceptance to Stanford University. Katie’s parents are Michael & Audrey Doi.

Congratulations to Audrey and Kimberly Nakamura for their graduation in December from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Good luck to Audrey and Kim. Audrey & Kimberly’s parents are Wayne and Sharon Nakamura.

GAIL SUEKI, Silicon Valley JACL chapter president, was elected as Vice President of General Operations for the National JACL. Congratulations and best wishes to Gail in being elected to this high position in the JACL.

NICK HORI, COLIN BOON, KRISTA FUKUMOTO and MELANIE YAMAMOTO graduated from their respective high schools. Best wishes for success in future endeavours.

MICHAEL YOSHIHARA and DUANE TAKAHASHI, SVJACL and Chidori Band members will be performing on Sat. May 15th at the CHIDORI BAND CONCERT starting at 7p. $12 Donation. San Jose Buddhist Church - 640 N. 5th Street, San Jose, CA 95112.

MARIKO FUJIMOTO, SJVACL Board member, competed in the district Oratorical Competition. She was 2nd runner up and received $50. Kudos to Mariko for entering the competition!

COREY FUJIOKA, SVJACL youth member, has been selected as Miss Tomodachi by her peers at the 2010 Cherry Blossom Queen Competition. Congratulations Corey! (Proud parents are chapter members Robert and Diane Fujioka and siblings Jordan and Sydney from Fremont)

PAT NAKASHIMA, SVJACL Board Secretary, was bestowed a prestious award by the French Consulate General office for her dedicated work to propagate the French language and culture. She has worked for years as the chair of the annual French contest.
